Tricia Goyer is the author of thirty books including Songbird Under a German Moon, The Swiss Courier, and the mommy memoir, Blue Like Play Dough. That's a beautiful way of saying "what doesn't kill us makes us stronger"!! I like it. Seriously, though, what Keller is saying is very true. It's the tough times that can show a person what they're made of.
Hellen Keller knew the principles of God's word. James 1:2-4 says it His way, "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." Pray for patience, then brace yourself!
